School of Education
Within the framework of the liberal arts and professional studies curriculum, Gardner-Webb’s School of Education offers you majors in Elementary Education (K-6) and Middle Grades Education (6-9). Concurrently, the School provides you with opportunities for intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual development within a learning environment based on Christian principles and values. A Professional Education Minor is available if you’re seeking 9-12 licensures in the areas of English, Mathematics, and Social Studies or in the special subject areas (K-12) of Art, Music, Physical Education, French, Spanish, and English as a Second Language. Upon successfully completing these programs, you will have fulfilled the requirements for North Carolina Class A Teacher Licensure. We also have courses available if you are a career teacher seeking license renewal or if you’re holding a bachelor’s degree and wish to obtain teacher licensure.

The School of Education strives to accomplish its mission through its commitment to:
- preparing undergraduate and graduate candidates for professional roles and responsibilities within school settings,
- providing rigorous programs of study which will facilitate reflective practice within a learning environment based upon Christian principles and values,
- hiring faculty who fill the role of caring, patient mentors while they model lifelong learning that reflects inquiry- and problem-based decision making,
- fostering partnerships with and providing service to public schools and other organizations through collaborative activities such as consultation, research, and staff development.
Gardner-Webb University's teacher education program is approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Music Department holds accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
