AWARDS

The First-Year Composition Award is given to an outstanding first-year student whose writing demonstrates clarity, originality, careful craftsmanship and audience appeal.

The Senior English Major Award is awarded to a graduating senior based on excellence in grades, character, leadership ability, and creativity.

The Professional Writing Award recognizes an English major or minor who produces exceptional writing designed for the marketplace.

The English Education Award is given to an outstanding student majoring in English with a minor in professional education.

The J. Calvin Koonts Poetry Award is given to a senior English major who demonstrates great potential for writing poetry. There poetry portfolio is published in the Broad River Review.

The Broad River Review Editor’s Prize in Poetry is chosen from the Broad River Review poetry submissions from Gardner-Webb students.

The Broad River Review Editor’s Prize in Fiction is chosen from the Broad River Review fiction submissions of Gardner-Webb students.

SIGMA TAU DELTA

Sigma Tau Delta is the international English honors society for outstanding English major and minors who have completed two or more English courses above 101 and 102, have a GPA of 3.0 (B or better) in all English courses, and have a GPA in the top 1/3 of the entire student body.
