Dr. Paula Qualls
Paula Qualls joined the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy in 1999. Prior to that, she taught for two years at Campbellsville University in Kentucky and as an adjunct with Simmons Bible College in Louisville, Kentucky. She earned her Ph.D. in Old Testament from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with archaeological field work through Tel Aviv University in Israel. She also holds an M.Div. from Southern Seminary and a B.A. in Religious Studies with a minor in Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Qualls teaches Hebrew and Old Testament classes where she incorporates service-learning and community engagement into some of the courses. Her areas of special interest are historical and modern day slavery and the call to justice in prophetic literature. Publications include several articles and expository sermons. Dr. Qualls has remained active in the local church, serving as teacher, conference speaker and youth minister.
