Faculty Spotlight - Dr. Bob Carey
Dr. Bob Carey is chair of the Communication Studies department at Gardner-Webb whose research and teaching areas include convergence journalism, photojournalism, media law, and mass media theory. He has also taught computer graphics, layout and design, and web publishing at Gardner-Webb.
Dr. Carey’s educational background includes a B.A. from the University of Washington, an M.A. from the University of Memphis, and a Ph. D. from Regent University.
Dr. Carey spent 20 years as a photojournalist working with several newspapers and United Press International. He was editor-in-chief for Missions Today magazine, and his photographs have appeared in the Dallas Times-Herald, Washington Post, Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, the Commission, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Chronicle of Higher Education, Christianity Today and Chrisma.
Dr. Carey currently serves as one of the directors of the Southwestern Photojournalism Conference and serves on the board of directors of Christians in Photojournalism. He is immediate past president of the National Press Photographers Association, the largest visual journalism association in the United States.
