Summer Student Minister

Hours: ~10hrs/week (with the exception of weeks away chaperoning trips)
Compensation: $1000/month
Duration: 10 weeks; ~June 8th -August 15th


  • Sunday School:  Plan lesson & lead youth Sunday school (finished grades 6-12th).
  • Worship: attend worship each week, be involved in worship leadership within level of comfort
  • Tween events:  each month, plan one event for children that have completed grades 3-5th
  • Youth events: each month, plan one event/outing for youth that have completed grades 6th -12th
  • Vacation Bible School: take the main leadership/director/recruiting role in pulling together VBS (July 13th-17th); Curriculm will be provided.
  • Children’s Passport:  lead the children to Passport Kids camp; June 17th -20th (3 nights)
  • Youth Passport: lead the youth to Passport Camp; July 19th -24th
  • Newsletter: contribute articles relevant to kids/youth activities for the monthly newsletter (July, August)
  • Staff Meetings:  attend meetings bi-monthly with other staff members (Tillie & Joanie)

The GHS program in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is accredited for Level One and Level Two with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). The ACPE is nationally recognized as an accrediting agency in the field of Clinical Pastoral Education by the U.S. Secretary of Education through the U.S. Department of Education. The residency program provides a full year (rotating admission) of intensive, post-graduate Clinical Pastoral Education including clinical rotation opportunities. Our system offers a wide variety of areas in which residents may participate during their training including:

  • Greenville Memorial Hospital (614-bed tertiary care center)
  • Level One Trauma Center
  • Heart Institute
  • Children’s Hospital
  • Cancer Center
  • Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Palliative Care
  • Marshall Pickens Psychiatric Hospital

Prerequisites for residency include one prior unit of CPE. Tuition is $350.00 per unit due the first day of the unit. The program runs on a rotating admission and offers a stipend competitive with that of other centers in the Southeast. There is a $25.00 application fee, checks made payable to "GHS Department of Spiritual Care & Education.

South Park Christian Church, in collaboration with The Family Tree, is now accepting applications for The Take Root year-long internship program. This year, two internships positions are open and available to qualified young adults who are interested in experiencing a transforming and unique internship experience.

The Take Root year-long internship program is a multi-faceted training year to combine faithful service and social action.

Young adult interns have the opportunity to:

  • Grow professionally ... through serving in internships with a local non-profit dedicated to advocacy or direct service.
  • Grow spiritually ... through serving in a leadership position with the host congregation.
  • Grow personally ... through living in community with others who share a commitment to service & social justice.

Serve approximately 20 hours a week with The Family Tree- a community agency engaged in direct service and advocacy. Serve 10 hours a week as the Family Faith Coordinator, with the host congregation, SouthPark Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Engage in reflection and discussion with intentional community members and a Spiritual Director from the local community.

Housing and food is provided by The Family Tree. A $500 per month stipend is provided by SouthPark Christian Church, totaling $6,000 for the year.

Interns must make a 12 month commitment to the “Take Root” program. Interns may reapply for a second year, if they so choose. We have hopes to hire two people in this position by August 2014.
