Global Missions Resource Center
The Center was established as the World A Resource Center in 1996 under the leadership of Mrs. Cathy Ollis. She and her husband Jack had previously served as missionaries with the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention working in places such as India, Thailand, and Singapore.
In 1998, the Ollises returned to work with the IMB and have since returned to work in Thailand. Rev. Sonny Sweatman served as the next director from August 1998 to March of 1999. Rev. Sweatman served as a missionary with the IMB in Zambia, Kenya, Swaiziland, and South Africa. He returned to work as a staff member at the IMB in Richmond.
July, 1999 brought more exciting changes to the Center. Recognizing the concern for all people of the world to know Christ as Savior and because of increasing requests about more traditional mission fields, the focus and name of the Center was changed to the Global Missions Resource Center.
With a new name came also a new director. Dr. Donald Berry came to the center having served in Prague, Czech Republic as an Assistant Professor of Missiology at the International Baptist Theological Seminary and as the director of the Institute for Mission and Evangelism (IME) for the European Baptist Federation. As part of his work as IME he has traveled to more than 40 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He has experience as as pastor and teacher in the US and abroad. His doctoral studies focused on World Religions, especially Islam, and Missiology.
Currently, there is an air of excitement as the Center prepares for ministry in the 21st century. As the world grows smaller and technology expands exponentially, we recognize we are on the threshold of something great. Come, labor with us!
The center exists to aid students of all ages as they attempt to understand and engage the world around them.
