Teaching Licensure
All students are required to complete a minor in a field of their own choice. Students seeking teacher licensure in social studies at the secondary school level must major in Social Sciences or History, minor in teacher education, and complete a supportive minor within the Department.
Why should I study the social sciences?
The social sciences are for anyone who wants to learn more about the social, political, and historical foundations of various world cultures. The increased awareness, analytical abilities, and research skills gained by studying history, sociology, and political science also helps the student function more effectively in the society in which he or she lives. Students who have majored in the social sciences have had careers in law, medicine, education, journalism, social work, and many other professions.
