I am a junior from Hickory, North Carolina majoring in photo journalism. I am involved with GW’s campus ministries events which include the student led worship services held on Tuesday nights and FOCUS. The FOCUS ministry is a group of 10-12 students who meet once a week then go out and lead youth groups on weekends. I love being here at Gardner-Webb because of all the great friends I’ve made and the Christian atmosphere on campus. Gardner-Webb is a great place to grow spiritually and mentally and those are just a few of the great things about Gardner-Webb. April 18, 2008 Everything is starting to wind down here at the Webb! I'm pretty excited about summer, and we only have two weeks of class left!! Next weekend we have formal and I'm pretty excited about that too! Last night we had the girls in our dorm all get together for a photo shoot! It was really fun! We took pictures of all the girls, then the girls on my hall, and then just the RAs. One of my friends came over and took the pictures of us, and we're going to get them printed off and give them to everyone that was there and then we're blowing one up to poster size and putting it in our lobby! It's going to be pretty cool. April 14, 2008 So it's been a crazy couple of days around Gardner-Webb. Everything is starting to be due, people are hanging out on the quad because it's beautiful outside, and everyone is anxiously awaiting summer vacation! March 28, 2008 Well this week seemed like a short one because we didn't have to come back to school til' Monday night. I've had a lot going on this week with Residence life stuff, we've been interviewing for next years RAs and then tonight we have an RA "Carousel" where we get to interview them all in groups and do a bunch of group activities. School work hasn't been that hard this week, but I'm sure it will pick up next week because I have a big test coming up! Yesterday I went to one of my friend's tennis matches. I like going to the matches and watching him and just getting to hang out with people in the crowd. He won both his singles and his doubles match, so it was a pretty good day! We're starting to have really pretty weather here and I love getting the opportunity to just sit outside, no matter what I'm doing! There's only a few more weeks of school left and I can't believe it, it feels like I just got here back in August! March 19, 2008 This past weekend was probably one of the best weekends I've had so far this semester. My FOCUS team and I went on a FOCUS trip to Asheville, NC and it was so much fun! I usually start stressing out about trips about a week before because I always worry about not having everything ready, or someone not showing up to go, or just crazy little things, but God always works everything out and by the time the weekend comes around I realize how silly I was being by worrying about it. We got to the church about 4:00 on Friday and not even five minutes after we were there we had already broken something. One of the guys on my team was swinging on a swing set that was pretty old, and the entire bar with the swings on it fell and he hit the ground. He didn't get hurt, but it was probably one of the funniest things I've seen in a while, I wish I would have had my video camera! The youth came about 5:00 and we played games and ate supper, which was really good, and had a worship service. Then we got to go to host homes to spend the night and do some other Bible lessons with the youth. On Saturday we got to go help out at a foodbank and we boxed food and other things for about 4 hours. It was a good way I thought to bond with each other on the team as well as the youth. It was probably one of the best trips I've been on for FOCUS over the last 2 years. There were a lot of youth that came and nothing really went wrong. That's always a positive! I wouldn't mind going back there again next year! March 14, 2009 So my Spring Break was pretty fun. I went home for a few days to rest and that's pretty much all I did. It was amazing! And then on Thursday my two friends and I went to Nashville, TN. I guess we were expecting it to be "Springy" but that didn't really end up being the case! It snowed, and it snowed a lot!! But it was really fun because I haven't seen that much snow in a very long time! We weren't really prepared for it, but it was fun anyways! We did a bunch of random stuff while we were there but one of the things we did was we got to eat in an aquarium! It was so much fun. Friday after my final midterm it will be Spring break! It's finally here! This semester is flying by so fast! I'm going to Nashville, TN for break and I can't wait. I'll be sure to put some pictures up once I get back. I'm going with two of my friends from school. I don't even know what all we're going to get to do but I'm sure it's going to be pretty exciting and fun!
Well Valentine's Day is over and all the excitement is coming to an end you could say. This week has been pretty fun and there has been a lot going on around campus. Anytime there is a holiday there is always something happening. On Wednesday night there was a "Sweetheart" banquet for all the girls on campus. I didn't get to attend but I heard it was really fun, and everyone dressed up for it and had a great time. Also on Wednesday I had a hall event on my hall for "Valentine's Day Eve". We all got together and had different cookies and milk and just hung out for a while. We played some Catch Phrase too, I love that game! I like being able to plan events for the hall and getting to hang out with everyone, it's always nice to have a little break in the middle of the week. On Thursday, there was a party down in the lobby of my dorm. Some people dressed up and some danced and some played games, and it was a pretty fun little get-together. They had a Disney Princess pinata set up and let the girls hit it, if ya ask me it was a great way to get some anger out! I didn't get to hit it, but the girls that did seemed pretty happy after hitting it and then busting it! I had a good time this week with my friends, but I still can't wait for our Spring break, it's coming up in two weeks! This semester is flying by so fast!
February 8, 2008 This week I had a project in photography that was due. One evening I was out taking pictures of my subject and noticed the beautiful sunset.
This week at Gardner-Webb has been pretty fun. It started out last Saturday with the Miss GWU pageant. Two of my good friends were in the pageant. It was pretty entertaining watching all the girls compete against one another. My favorite part of the pageant was the talent section. There was one girl who gutted a fish for her talent! She chopped the fish's head completely off! It was crazy! Although it smelled really bad and looked really gross, it was a pretty interesting talent, and one you don't see to often performed at a beauty pageant.
Another thing that started up this week was Intramural basketball season and we had our first game on Thursday night. It was so much fun. I love getting together with my friends and playing basketball, and its even better when we win the game! We won 53-7, it was pretty exciting. It was fun for us, but it probably wasn't that great of a game for the spectators to watch, because it was pretty much a blowout. But oh well, we had a great time playing together! I can' wait for our next game on Monday, hopefully we'l get another win!
Casey I think I am finally beginning to get back in the groove of classes again. The first few weeks are always the hardest I think. I think I am starting to enjoy my classes actually. I feel like I am learning a lot that will actually help me out in the future for my job. I love being in classes that pertain to my major, it makes going to class a
lot easier and not as stressful. Like I said last week, its so good to get back and see all of my friends again. This past weekend a group of girls all went out for one of my friend's birthday. She turned 21 and we went to Olive Garden in Concord. It was pretty fun and we all got a good meal out of it!
needed a break. Last Thursday I got the break I had been praying for! It snowed! It was so exciting! It started snowing late Wednesday night and snowed thru the morning. Everyone went out on the quad and hung out and played around. All classes were canceled on Thursday, so we got our first snow day of the school year! I loved it. I just enjoy walking around in it and taking in the beauty. I'm hoping there will be a few more of those days to come this year. Snow is always a
great way to start of a semester, even if it only lasts a day.
January 15, 2008 Well I'm finally getting back into the swing of things around here. I had a very much needed break but it is good to be back here after Christmas. Over Christmas I got to go visit a friend from school and we had ourselves a little craft day! We made picture frames and some other stuff to go around our rooms, it was really fun and I loved being able to go see her over the break. You don't really realize how much your friends here mean to you until you're seperated from them for a while. Its exciting to see all of my friends again and start a new semester. I had to come back before everyone because I'm an RA here on campus. It was in some ways refreshing to be here before everyone and just have some time to relax before starting classes again. All the RAs in my building got together one evening and cooked supper and baked cookies. It was a great time to just get together with the girls. I think you can learn a lot about people when you cook with them. I'm excited about starting this semester and seeing what the Lord has in store for me as well as everyone here at Gardner-Webb.
The semester is so close to being done that I can feel it! I only have four exams to take and then I am going home for the holidays, I'm so excited! It will be a great break and a great time to relax. I think I like Christmas break more than Thanksgiving break because there is nothing due for classes once you get back to school in January, you get to start all over again and I can't wait. There is so much to be studying, projects that need to be turned in, papers to be writing, and books to finish up reading, before the semester ends. I try not to let it overwhelm me too bad, which has been kind of hard this semester to not let happen. This week some of my friends had a litte Christmas get together and they had prizes they gave away as well as food and drinks, it was pretty fun getting together with everyone before we all leave for break. I also had a banquet to attend on Friday night with all the RA's on campus. It was really nice and we had some pretty great food at it, which is always a plus! This has been a great Christmas season here at Gardner-Webb. It feels like I'm home even when I'm at school with everything that is going on. I love being here during this time of the year.
December 2, 2007 I love the holiday season! When everyone around here starts talking about Christmas, it puts a little excitement in the air. I think it is always so beautiful around campus at this time of the year, we have candles in the all the windows at night, lights on a Christmas tree outside of Decker, most of the dorm's halls are decorated for Christmas, and even walking through the quad at night you can see people's lights in their windows. Its like our own little Christmas community! This Thursday we had an event on campus called the festival of lights, it was so much fun. The choirs on campus as well as the Boilling Springs Elementary School's choir put on a concert and then we all go outside afterwards and light the Christmas tree and stand around and sing carols. It is probably my favorite thing that we do on campus all year. It is so simple yet so amazing! I love how Christmas brings everyone together and brings a smile to everyone's face. It is always a great way to start off the Christmas season here at Gardner-Webb! November 23, 2007 There are only two more weeks of class left and I can't believe it! This week we only had two days of classes and our much needed Thanksgiving break. I think I'm ready for Christmas, actually I know I'm ready for Christmas! Even though I have a lot of tests, projects, and papers that are creeping up on me at the end of the semester I'm still finding time to hang out with all of my friends and just relax. This past weekend some of the girls in Decker (a dorm here on campus) had a get-together for Thanksgiving. Everyone brought something they had cooked and we all got together and had our own Thanksgiving meal. It was a lot of fun! We even got in a circle and everyone said what they were thankful for. It may seem kind of corny but it was just great to see everyone so happy and just how blessed we truly are! I loved the community that we all had with each other and the memories that were made! November 16, 2007
This week has been pretty fun and busy at the same time. Its just not starting to sink in that my semester is almost over! I can't believe it! With all the activities, homework, hanging out with friends, and working, my time seems to go by so fast! This week I was assigned three final projects that are due the last week of school, and in my mind I was thinking I have a long time before then, but there are only two and a half weeks left of classes! Its going to be one busy end of the semester for me! But it will be fun because two of the projects are for photography classes and I love working on those!
There has been a lot of stuff happening on campus this week as well. On Tuesday night we all went out and supported our awesome 'Runnin Bulldogs Basketball team and cheered them on to victory! Our guys team won with a final score of 99-74! It was so much fun being there with everyone and getting to see them play their first home game, and its even more fun when they win! On Saturday I'll be working a Dawg Day here on campus and then going to the final home football game against Liberty. I can't wait to go to the game and hang out with everybody and watch our guys play! We're going to have a blast! November 12, 2007 This week has been a whirlwind of activities and excitement! I never would have imagined a week like this here on the Gardner-Webb campus. It started off with my birthday being on Monday. That always puts a little excitement and fun in the air. On Wednesday night a bunch of my friends got together to have a Birthday party for my friend Aaron and I because our birthdays were just a day apart. It was a lot of fun and a ton of people showed up. We all met in the the lobby of my dorm and hung out, ate cake and brownies, danced and some people even played some games. It was great getting all our friends together to celebrate our birthdays! I can't wait til' this time next year comes back around!
Our party ended about 10:45 on Wednesday night, and some friends of mine had been texting me telling me to come up to the DCC to watch the game because we were beating Kentucky. At the time I didn't realize that it was going to be such a huge deal and that it was even happening. But it did, we won! After everyone left the DCC around 11:15 they started running around campus for almost 2 hours celebrating! It was really exciting. On Thursday ESPN was here and we all went into the gym to show our school spirit and support for our Bulldogs! Like I said its been one whirlwind of a week, and now I'm ready for next week and the big game against UCONN! This past week has been a whirlwind of activities! We had our fall break which was a great time for me to take some time to relax. Classes and all the stuff I'm involved in has started to catch up with me all of a sudden! After returning from fall break everything started right back up again just where it had left off. I am an RA (Resident Advisor) for the hall that I live on in Stroup and I had an event planned for the girls the Thursday evening following our fall break. All the girls on my hall got together and had a huge trick-or-treat! It was so much fun. It was a great way for all the girls to get to know each other better and just hang out on the hall and have a good time. We had a door decorating contest where the girls decorated their doors to win a prize. I had a great time with the girls and I especially loved getting all the free candy! It was just a great way to kick off Halloween! I can't wait to plan our next hall activitiy and have just as much fun as we did at this event.
Everybody is rushing to finish their final projects for classes, final papers, and even start thinking about exams! I'm trying to not really think about exams though, because it starts to overwhelm me!
It's pretty much like prom, but I had a lot more fun last year at formal than I ever did at prom. They turn the LYCC into this big ballroom like place, and you can't even tell you're in a gym!
It's almost here, only three weeks left of classes and then exams and then it's over! On Thursday we had our final party for the hall. It was pretty fun. We all got together and made tie dye t-shirts. I had only done it once before, and it didn't turn out to well. But this time I had one of the girls on the hall teach us all how to do it correctly, and it worked out pretty well! Mine actually turned out not just as one big blob on my shirt! Everybody had a good time and it was a great time to just take a break and hang out with everyone and do something fun!

We went at lunchtime and it wasn't too busy so we got a great seat right beside the huge tank. A scuba diver even swam by us and fed the fish while we were eating. I had never really experienced anything like that before. We also went to the Ryman Auditorium where the Grand Old Opry used to be. It was really pretty inside, and just cool to think about all the people that performed there over the years. It kind of looked like a church inside, and it wasn't really what I was expecting it to be.
But anyways, my break was great and now it's almost time for another one! Easter is next weekend! And then only a few more weeks of school til' summer!!
February 28, 2008
This week has been a pretty busy one around here. I've had three Midterms so far and I still have one more to go on Friday. It's been a week that has just consisted of studying pretty much. On Tuesday night Campus Ministries put on a thing called "Midterm Munchies". It's where they go and get a ton of doughnuts, I don't even know the count, but it sure is a lot! And then everyone comes out and gets some doughnuts to just take a break from studying and classes. Campus Ministries puts this on every semester around this time. I think it's a great way to reach out to the entire campus, because practically everyone shows up!
February 22, 2008
Only one more week 'til Spring Break and I am so excited! I hope this next week goes by really fast for all of us here, because I think we all need this break very much! I have three mid-terms next week and I'm not really looking forward to that so that's why I need it to go by fast! This is a pretty stressful time around here because there are a lot of things starting to be due like projects, papers, and just various assignments. But like always, we ususally find other things to do with our free time.
On Wednesday of this week I had a little FOCUS trip to a church in Shelby. It was pretty fun. Our team went an hung out with the youth at their Wednesday night service and lead it for them. We played some games, sang a few songs and had a Bible lesson for them, and then had some snacks.
On Thursday night there was a home basketball game. I think that it's the second to last home game of the season. We played East Tennesse State and killed them!! It was really exciting. It was actually a pretty rough game for the guys, but they stuck it out and ended up winning 96-70. I haven't been to a game in a while because I've been so busy with school and work and just other stuff going on, so it was fun to be able to go have fun with everybody and cheer on the Bulldogs!
The first picture is of the girls on my FOCUS team, and the second picture is of one of the guys in our group leading the Bible study.

February 15, 2008
So there hasn't been that much going on around the webb this week. I didn't have any tests or a lot of homework, and one of my classes was even cancelled. Its been pretty relaxing! I had two intramural basketball games this week. We lost the first one but ended up winning the second one! It was pretty exciting. A lot of my friends said that it was one of the most intense intramural games they had ever seen, and I believe them because it was pretty rough being out there playing.
But at least we ended up winning!
Ever since I have been at Gardner-Webb I have loved seeing the sunsets every night. They are so pretty here! I never really noticed them when I was living at home, but you sure can see them here! Everybody talks about them, and I know this probably seems corny but the sunsets are one of my favorite things about this campus! Especially now when it's starting to get a little warmer and you can stay outside and enjoy them with everybody!
February 1, 2008
Neither of my friends won Miss GWU, but they still did a great job, and it was fun watching them.
