GOAL Program Majors - Computer Information Systems

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS) offered through Gardner-Webb's Broyhill  Undergraduate School of Management provides a fully accredited baccalaureate degree for those wishing to pursue a career in computer information systems.   Computer information systems is one of the fastest growing areas of study, as well as one offering plentiful career opportunities.  The CIS program provides students with training in business knowledge, information technologies, and management skills to solve business problems to achieve strategic objectives of the organization.  The CIS graduate can pursue a wide array of positions in systems development, Internet and network technologies, information management, and business consulting.

Prerequisites

Prior to enrolling in the CIS Program, the applicant should have the following courses in their academic transcript:

  • 60-64 semester hours from a regionally accredited junior or senior college
  • 1 course in introduction to programming
  • 3 courses in computer information systems
  • 2 semesters in Accounting Principles (6 semester hours)
  • 2 semesters in Economics Principles (macro and microeconomics)
  • English 101 and 102 (Basic Composition and Literature)
  • 1 course in Introduction to Computer Concepts

Academics Curriculum

Approximately half (33 semester hours) of the CIS curriculum consists of the GOAL Core, a variety of upper-level liberal arts courses. The other half will be particular to the CIS major, and relate directly to the study of computer science. A student must complete 30 hours in the Computer Information Systems major, 15 of which must be completed with the University.  Below are the major requirements of CIS:

  • MGT 403 - Human Behavior in Organizations (or MGT 410 - Small Business Management)
  • MGT 416 - Production and Operations Management
