What is your favorite thing about Boiling Springs?

How everybody I know here feels like family.  This is the first place besides Asheville that has felt like “home” to me.

What activities were you involved in while at GWU?

4-Year Cross Country/Track runner, SGA, Presidential Associate, Student Judicial Board, Campus Ministries, FOCUS, GaP/The Verge, FCA, and the Dawg Pound.

What were your three favorite things as a student at Gardner-Webb?

1.  How much I grew in my faith while I was a student
2.  Gaining some of the best friendships I’ll ever have
3.  Late-night trips to Walmart, followed by drive-thru Wendy’s or Burger King, & back to Mauney to watch “Conan” with my boys, Drew & Caleb.

Who has been a hero or role model for you and why?

Without a doubt Jesus Christ, but He has also blessed me with two of the best parents in the world.  My Dad is my moral barometer; If something doesn’t feel right to him, I’m usually not comfortable with it.  My Mom is my hero; I am who I am because of her.  I love you Mom & Dad!

What are your hobbies?

Basically anything having to do with watching/playing mainstream sports (especially if it relates to golf or the New York Yankees!).  I still run when I get the chance; I have started doing marathons.  I enjoy music (my favorite genres are Bluegrass, Celtic, & classical soundtracks).  I also enjoy driving around & “getting lost” trying to find good sight-seeing spots.

What is your favorite verse?

“…forgetting what lies behind & straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

I have always liked the analogy of life being a marathon, not a sprint.  Paul’s words here very much encompass the mentality of the distance runner in the middle of a race.  While things might not have gone exactly how you planned earlier in the race, you are where you are now, & there’s nothing you can do to change that.  So from this point of the race until the end, “strain” with every element of effort & energy to finish the best that you can.  Life has the exact same mentality… events might not have turned out the way you wanted them to, but you can’t change where you’re at in this moment.  From this point on, “strain” to live your life the best that you can for the Ultimate Reward in Christ.
