Award-winning Poet/Lyricist to Offer Public Reading At Gardner-Webb

On Thursday, April 19, multi award-winning poet/lyricist, Keith Flynn will be spending time with students, faculty and the public at Gardner-Webb University. During the day, Flynn will be in classrooms speaking with students about the art of poetry and writing, while later that evening, he will offer a public reading and question and answer session. This free event is open to the community and will take place in the Dover Campus Center’s Ritch Banquet Hall at 7:00 pm. 

Flynn has authored numerous books including four books of poetry. He is the co-founder of the UNC-Asheville student newspaper, The Blue Banner, and he received honors in 1985 by earning the Sandburg Prize for Poetry. For nearly 10 years he served as the lead singer and lyricist for the critically acclaimed rock band, The Crystal Zoo. In that role, he was awarded the Emerging Songwriter Prize from the American Society of Composers, Artists and Publishers (ASCAP) for two consecutive years (1991 & 1992). Flynn has given thousands of performances, readings and lectures throughout the United States and Europe during his career and he is also the founder and managing editor of the international publication, Asheville Poetry Review. This literary journal publishes content including poetry, interviews, book reviews and historical perspectives.
