BOILING SPRINGS, NC – Gardner-Webb University is proud to announce that this year’s selected recipient of the John A. Rohr Scholarship in Public Administration and Law is its very own Bobbie Cox of the Gardner-Webb GOAL Program.
The John A. Rohr Scholarship in Public Administration and Law enables a student in a graduate program in Public Administration to pursue development of practice and research in that field of study. Candidates for the scholarship were judged by such criteria as their research interests and experiences in the areas of public administration, law, and the courts, and how attending a ASPA (American Society of Public Administration) conference could aid their personal and professional goals.
Dr. John A. Rohr is professor of public administration at the Center for Public Administration and Policy at Virginia Tech University. Rohr’s expertise in public administration and political science has helped scholars and practitioners have a better understanding of how law affects public administration and the responsibilities of their jobs as implementers of the constitution. Rohr’s accomplishments include recipient of the ASPA Distinguished Research Award, a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, author of numerous books, managing editor of the Scholarly Journal Administration & Society, and a consultant/guest lecturer to public training organizations and universities in America and Europe.
Bobbie Cox serves as the criminal justice coordinator and an instructor for Gardner-Webb’s GOAL (Greater Opportunities for Adult Learners) Program at the Catawba Center, Hickory, NC. Cox worked in the criminal justice system for 30 years prior to joining Gardner-Webb. She is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at UNC-Charlotte. When asked about receiving the Rohr scholarship, Cox says, “My passion for the law and the constitution has given me much satisfaction in life, however, this formal recognition makes me aware that my work is being acknowledged by my colleagues.”
The scholarship will be formally presented to Cox at the Section of Public Law and Administration’s membership meeting at the ASPA Conference on Sunday, March 25th in Washington, D.C.
