Boiling Springs NC – Since 1926, the month of February has been designated as Black History Month, a time to honor African Americans and their historical accomplishments. February also marks the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln - two men who had greatly impacted the black population of the United States.
In recognition of this time, Gardner-Webb will be presenting the well-known and experienced speaker, Dr. Gregory K. Moss. “I am honored that the President of the General Baptist Convention of North Carolina is speaking on our campus during Dimensions. It is especially meaningful to me that his visit to Gardner-Webb University occurs during the month of February, which is Black History Month,” says Tracy Jessup, minister to Gardner-Webb University.
In 1867, the General Baptist Convention of North Carolina was formed to support the "Gospel ministry and to promote missions." A small band of free African-Americans, freedmen, ex-slaves and white ministers from the NC Baptist State Convention met to better promote the work of Evangelism and Kingdom Building for all races.
Dr. Gregory K. Moss, Sr. will be speaking at the Dimensions Service on Tuesday, February 13, at 9:25 a.m. in the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center on the Gardner-Webb University campus. For over twenty-five years, Moss has been a great preacher and teacher who is committed to the progress and development of the whole man.
Currently, Moss is President of the General Baptist Convention of North Carolina and was called to Saint Paul Baptist Church on November 1, 1998. Moss is the son of the late Ms. Catherine Moss of Statesville, NC and the loving father of one son, Gregory K. Moss, Jr. His education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1978, a Master of Theology from Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1983 and a Doctorate of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in 1992.
Gardner-Webb University’s Dimensions programs are free and open to the public. The goal of Dimensions is to enhance the spiritual, intellectual and cultural life of the University and also to promote a sense of community. Dimensions are held on Tuesdays at 9:25 a.m. in the Lutz- Yelton Convocation Center (LYCC). The LYCC is located across from Suttle Wellness Center on the GWU campus.
