The Gardner-Webb Visual Art Division will present an exhibit of artists Skip and Chris Roth March 29th through April 27th. The exhibit will be held in the new SGA funded Art Club Gallery in the Communication Studies Hall Building on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.
The sawdust flies when Skip and Chris Roth, father and son, go to work on one of their unique pieces of artwork. The two-chainsaw artists are well respected and have received national attention for their chainsaw artwork featuring everything from people to animals to nature. Skip has his artwork on display throughout the US as well as Australia, England, and South Africa. Chris, now in his early thirties, started working and creating with a chain saw at the age of ten and has worked closely with his father for well over a decade.
Besides chainsaw artwork by the Roth’s, the exhibit will also feature paintings on paper and mattress covers. On Thursday, March 29th the Roth’s will demonstrate their carving techniques by working their magic in an outdoors exhibition in front of the Communication Studies Hall and Art Building from 10:30 am until 4:00 pm. Skip and Chris plan on carving a Gardner-Webb Bulldog and donating the artwork to the Department of Fine Arts, Division of Visual Art. The Roth’s also promise to work on a number of other chain saw pieces during this one-day carving exhibition. The work will be made available for purchase. Also on Thursday, March 29th, an opening reception for the artists will take place from 5:30 until 6:30 pm in the Art and Communication Building. The public is invited to view the artwork and meet the artists during this event.
