Boiling Springs, NC – This spring 2009, Gardner-Webb University will present the Broadway musical “Lil’ Abner.” The production will be team-directed by Scot Lahaie, Patricia Sparti, and Patricial Harrelson, and Chris Keene.
The Gardner-Webb Orchestra will provide accompaniment for the performance and students are invited to take Musical Theatre Workshop class to gain credit from the performance.
With a cast of more than 40 people, this terrific musical will be a big effort and huge success.
Originally produced in 1956, this musical satire tells the story of young Abner and Daisy Mae. The two fall in love and get married, but not before saving an entire town from extinction with a magic Yocumberry tonic potion.
Based on an earlier stage production and comic strip, Director Melvin Frank put “Lil’ Abner” on Broadway. This successful, colorful comedy-musical continues to attract all audiences.
