 Entrepreneurship Symposium at Gardner-Webb

Executive Vice President for Federal Reserve Among Participants for Entrepreneurship Symposium at Gardner-Webb

Boiling Springs, N.C. – How did the U.S. housing bubble affect my future and other markets around the world?  What should I be doing to effectively handle this crisis for my investment or company?  If you’ve found yourself asking these questions, for business or personal curiosity, you might be interested in attending the 2008 Entrepreneurship Symposium at Gardner-Webb University sponsored by The Godbold School of Business Center for Ethics.

The 2008 Entrepreneurship Symposium will host a panel of academic and business leaders and experts to discuss the indications of the current economic crisis on different sectors of the domestic and world economy and suggested solutions for individual and companies.  One of those experts will be Jeff Kane, executive vice president for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Charlotte headquarters.

Congress created the Federal Reserve System in 1913 as the nation’s central bank and operates 12 districts across the country.  Charlotte is a home branch operation of Richmond, headquarters of the Fifth District, which supervises banking in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia.

Many individuals, investors, managers, and policy makers have raised a number of questions over the recent economic crisis.  The academic, business leaders and experts will discuss the origins and implications of the current economic challenges and how they affect their individual sectors.  Sectors to be addressed include banks, businesses, religion and ethics, education, individual investors and health care.

Dean of the Godbold School of Business, Dr. Anthony Negbenebor says this will be the inaugural opening of the center for ethics and entrepreneurship.  “It is through the vision of our president and the donor, Mr. John Godbold, that we have been able to offer such a center which will be a base for assisting local businesses and offer them tools that will enable them to be competitive in the global market,” said Negbenebor.

The symposium take places on Thursday, November 20, in Blanton Auditorium - Hamrick Hall.  The panel will provide information and discussion from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a luncheon from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and guest should RSVP no later than November 17.  Contact Penny Brower of the Godbold School of Business at 704-406-2260 or pbrower@gardner-webb.edu.
