Festival of Lights will be held December 4

BOILING SPRINGS, NC – “The Festival of Lights is always a special time of inaugurating the Christmas season on the campus of Gardner-Webb, “ Minister to the University Tracy Jessup states, “It is always meaningful to see students, faculty, staff and members of the community come together for this annual event.”

The Festival of Lights is an event held every year, the Thursday after Thanksgiving. It brings the community together in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

This Gardner-Webb Christmas tradition will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4 in the Dover Theatre of the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center at Gardner-Webb University. There will be a variety of music, including congregational Carols, spirituals and contemporary selections of new Christmas works.

The concert will feature the Gardner-Webb handbell ensemble, string ensemble, concert choir, chorale, and select vocal ensembles. Following the music, Dr. Frank Bonner, Gardner-Webb president, will read the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke.

After the concert, guests are invited to move to the Quad for the official lighting of the campus Christmas tree. Luminaries will lead the way to refreshments available in the O. Max Gardner Music Hall.

Dr. Paul Etter, director of chorale activities and coordinator of sacred music, states, “It really does mean a lot to the students who go and participate and we’re glad to have this here as a tradition at Gardner-Webb.”
