Offers Users Faster Access and Better Coverage
Boiling Springs, NC- Gardner Webb University is pleased to announce that it has recently purchased a new wireless network manufactured by Meru Networks. The new network will take advantage of the “N Standard” for wireless access, which is the leading edge of wireless technology. Gardner-Webb University is one of only a few universities in the southeast that has implemented the “N Standard” campus-wide.
The new wireless system has quadrupled the speed of wireless internet access for wireless-n devices.
The system that Gardner-Webb purchased from Meru Networks is also distinctive from others because it uses single channel architecture to transmit data. Single channels provide better coverage because wireless access points can be placed in buildings without the concern of overlapping coverage on different channels. The goal in upgrading the network is to stay current or ahead of emerging technology.
Joey Bridges, Associate Vice President for Technology Services, says, “Eric Brewton, our Network Manager, has done a vast amount of research and effort by testing and working with vendors to find the right fit for Gardner-Webb. Mike Hardin, vice President of finance, and Wayne Johnson, associate vice president of Plant Operations, have done an outstanding job of supporting this project in the area of finance. Finally, I would like to thank Dr. Ben Leslie, provost, for his encouragement and desire to provide better wireless services for the faculty, staff and students of Gardner-Webb University.”
Located in Boiling Springs, NC, Gardner-Webb University was founded in 1905 and is home to nearly 4000 students from 39 states and 21 foreign countries. Gardner- Webb University provides exceptional educational opportunities within a Christian environment.
