Doug Eury to Lead Center for Innovative Leadership Development
BOILING SPRINGS, NC - Gardner-Webb University's Center for Transformational Leadership will now be known as the Center for Innovative Leadership Development but its purpose remains the same. While, the name change doesn't represent a change in mission, it will draw attention to the important role of education, research, and creativity in the formation of effective leaders.
The Center was established in the spring of 2008 as another way for Gardner-Webb to be identified as a University with character with an emphasis on faith, service, and leadership. The Center is a joint endeavor, primarily, accomplished through the cooperation of the School of Education, School of Divinity, and School of Business.
Dr. Doug Eury serves as the Center's director. Eury is the associate dean for the GWU School of Education and has been with the University for nine years. A native of Stanly County, N.C., Eury received his BS (Bachelor of Science), EdS (Educational Specialist) and EdD (Doctor of Education) degrees from Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. and his MEd (Master of Education) degree at the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
The Center plans to concentrate on two key initiatives. The initiatives are developing community capacity through individual leadership skills and support for school systems within the GWU region. "The approach won't focus on events, but rather opportunities for planning, implementing and assessment of vital leadership skills that are proven to impact the ability of individuals to lead communities in reform and revitalization," said Eury.
The Center's vision statement reads, "The Center for Innovative Leadership Development will become an institution that supports the needs of the immediate community and region with vital significant programs aimed at spiritual, economic, and academic growth."
