Accountant I

Gardner-Webb University invites applications for an Account I position. This full-time position is responsible for administering the University’s purchasing card program.  This position will also assist accounts payable by reviewing and preparing invoices for payment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all daily aspects of the university purchasing card program. Responsible for new card-holder set up, transaction reconciliation, and evaluating related support documentation to ensure compliance with university policies, and communication of policy non-compliance.
  • Review and manage all payables to ensure applicable sales tax was applied.  Code transactions to appropriate state and county tax accounts.
  • Maintain up-do-date knowledge on NCDOR sales and use tax directives.
  • Review all accounts payable invoices, payment requests, and travel expense reports for accuracy and compliance for input into accounting system.
  • Support Accounts Payable Specialist with investigating, reviewing and responding to internal and external customers regarding payments.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and staff on accounting issues and procedures.
  • Support and adhere to accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required
  • Knowledge of accounting principles
  • Current knowledge of the State of NC sales and use tax laws
  • Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable methods
  • Possess initiative, integrity, attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
