Assistant/Associate Professor in Communications & New Media

Gardner-Webb University’s Department of Communication & New Media invites applications for a ten-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin in Fall 2022. We value quality teaching, and we seek enthusiastic scholars who will likewise enjoy working closely with undergraduate and graduate students in a Christian environment. Faculty member will be required to teach on-campus.

Other responsibilities may include serving as Chair of the department, arranging and supervising undergraduate students in communication internships, and advising and scheduling majors.

Successful candidate will:

  • Have significant experience as a practitioner of photojournalism, still and video
  • Demonstrate experience with other forms of visual storytelling such as documentary video, multimedia work, and studio photography
  • Teach in the undergraduate photography and video programs
  • Organize student trips or planning events such as guest speakers or symposia
  • Demonstrate continuing professional and educational growth
  • Provide academic and professional advising to communication majors
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the University and performing other duties as assigned

Eligibility requirements for consideration include:

  • A master’s degree in journalism, communication, or video/film and professional experience in visual media are required; PhD or MFA and teaching experience are preferred (NOTE: a terminal degree is required for tenure and promotion)
  • Research and/or consulting in a communication discipline
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Record of successful collaboration and teamwork
  • Prior college-level teaching experience in courses such as photojournalism, photography, or visual communication
  • Experience using and teaching the Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro
  • Commitment to the Christian faith
  • Current professional industry experience is preferred
