The Gardner-Webb University Department of Physician Assistant Studies seeks a qualified candidate to fill a 12-month full-time non-tenure-track faculty position in the College of Health Sciences at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2022-2023 academic year on the main campus in Boiling Springs, NC.
This is a campus-based position requiring the successful candidate to work on-campus. The candidate must be a motivated PA or physician passionate about the PA profession and academia. This individual will work collaboratively with the director, faculty, and staff of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and all College of Health Sciences members through interprofessional education opportunities. The faculty and staff of the department are devoted to academic excellence and possess a passionate commitment to underserved populations and reducing barriers to healthcare.
The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those aligned with didactic instructional preparation for delivering classroom lectures or clinical skills instruction, development and implementation of Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCEs), ongoing curriculum assessment and modification, student progress and performance assessment, mentoring and advising students in their professional development, participating in continuous program self-assessment and accreditation compliance, and contributing to admissions recruitment, interviews, and selection processes. In addition, clinical practice release time is available to full-time faculty. Professional service to the PA profession is strongly encouraged.
Highly qualified applicants must possess a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university/accredited PA program or medical school. A doctorate is preferred (DMSc, DHSc, EdD, or Ph.D.). Also required are at least two years of professional clinical practice experience in a clinical health-related field involving direct patient care; current certification by the appropriate certifying body (e.g., NCCPA, ABFM, ABIM, ABP, etc.); and eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina.
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication. Experience in PA or graduate medical education or clinical precepting is desirable. The applicant is expected to participate in inter-professional education opportunities, provide service with active participation in program, school, and university committees, and pursue professional development opportunities annually. Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative environment and self-motivation are essential qualities of a successful applicant.
