Assistant Professor of Exercise Science

Gardner-Webb University announces a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise Science.  Candidates who are dedicated to educating students and have at least 2 years of professional experience as a licensed physical therapist (DPT) or occupational therapist (OT) are encouraged to apply. 

Essential Responsibilities/Duties: 

  • Uphold and further the Gardner-Webb University Mission and Statements of Value.
  • Utilize extensive professional experience as DPT or OT to further the Department of Exercise Science Mission.
  • Create and deliver classroom lectures in several Exercise Science courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. Specific courses to be determined based upon department need and faculty expertise.
  • Serve as MS Strength & Conditioning Program Coordinator, under the direction of the Chair of Exercise Science. 
  • Instruct, evaluate, advise, and disciple students in context of Exercise Science curriculum.
  • Assist in identifying internship sites and, upon request of the Exercise Science Internship Supervisor, perform site visits to evaluate students during internships. 
  • Participate in admissions processes by evaluating graduate program applications, interviewing candidates, and rendering selection decisions. 
  • Participate in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote the Department of Exercise Science within academic and professional communities. 
  • Participate as a member of department and University level committees. 

At the time of application, candidates must have the qualifications listed below: 

  • Licensed DPT or OT
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in clinical practice. 
  • CSCS certification with the NSCA 
  • Demonstrated ability in higher education teaching and curriculum development  
  • Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative environment
