Associate Director of Student Activities and New Student Orientation

Gardner-Webb University invites applicants for the Associate Director of Student Activities and New Student Orientation. This position serves within the Division of Student Development. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Student Activities, Campus Recreation, and New Student Orientation.

Primary responsibilities will include the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive co-curricular student involvement program and new student orientation program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive co-curricular student involvement program
  • Assess student involvement programs through surveys and software
  • Maintain and coordinate a master calendar of student involvement programs
  • Plan and execute large scale campus-wide traditions including Family Weekend, Earth Day, and Festival of Lights, Homecoming events, etc.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Student Activities Advisory Board
  • Manages financial resources, within budget limits, in accordance with University guidelines under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Student Engagement by planning, developing, and overseeing designated budgets
  • Develop co-sponsored or complementary programs and forms strong network ties with campus organizations, departments, and campus programming committee
  • Oversee Student Activity publications and social media accounts
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of the New Student Orientation Program
  • Contribute to an effective unit by completing special projects and performing other duties assigned by the Director of Student Activities, Campus Recreation, & New Student Orientation
  • Represent the Division at University sponsored events

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 2-5 years professional experience with database management in admissions at a college or university is preferred. Experience utilizing innovative technology such as a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution is preferred

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education or appropriate field plus three to five years of experience in Student Activities or related Student Affairs field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer focus, with the ability to operate in a collaborative and professional manner with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse university community
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to present views in a clear and compelling manner
  • Exceptional project management skills to include the ability to prioritize, organize and lead multiple, concurrent initiatives; seeing the project to successful completion
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and appropriate
