Assistant/Associate Professor of Communications & New Media

Gardner-Webb University Department of Communication & New Media invites applications for a ten-month, full-time faculty member position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin in Fall 2021. We value quality teaching and we seek enthusiastic scholars who will likewise enjoy working closely with undergraduate and graduate students in a Christian environment. Faculty members will be required to teach on-campus.

Other responsibilities may include arranging and supervising undergraduate students in communication internships and assistance in coordinating scheduling and advising majors. Consideration as the department chair is possible.

The successful candidate will:

  • The successful candidate will have significant experience as a practitioner of photojournalism both still and video
  • Demonstrate experience with other forms of visual storytelling such as documentary video, multimedia work, and studio photography
  • Teach in the undergraduate photography and video programs
  • Organize student trips or planning events, such as guest speakers or symposia
  • Demonstrate continuing professional and educational growth
  • Advise students through realistic and thorough guidance
  • Provide academic and professional advising to all communication majors
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the University and performing other duties as assigned by the Chair

Eligibility requirements for consideration include:

  • At least a master’s degree in Journalism, Communication or Video/Film and professional experience in visual media are required. A Ph.D. or MFA, and teaching experience are preferred. (A terminal degree is required for Tenure-Track and promotion beyond Assistant Professor)
  • Current professional industry experience is preferred
  • Research and/or consulting in communication discipline
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Record of successful collaboration and teamwork
  • Previous college-level teaching experience in courses such as photojournalism, photography, or visual communication
  • Experience with using and teaching the Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro
  • Commitment to the Christian faith
