Associate/Full Professor

Chair of Department of Music

Gardner-Webb University seeks applications for a Tenure-track Associate/Full Professor to serve as Chair of the Department of Music. We seek to hire energetic and engaging leaders who are exceptional instructors and proven experts within the Department of Music. The Department Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and works collaboratively with many others across campus.

Gardner-Webb University is a coeducational, residential, private institution located in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 4,000 students. The University is located in the foothills of North Carolina with easy access to Charlotte, Asheville, and Greenville-Spartanburg. Gardner-Webb University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the National Associate of Schools of Music (NASM).

The ideal candidates would have teaching responsibilities, preferably having expertise in one of the following areas: Voice (soprano or mezzo-soprano preferred) and/or Traditional/Contemporary Worship.

Basic expectations for these positions include:

• A completed terminal degree in music;
• A demonstrated history of excellent teaching, performance, collaboration, leadership, and recruitment;

• Dedication to student learning, particularly undergraduate education.

Responsibilities for the Chair position include:

• Leading the faculty in ongoing refinement of the Department’s vision and strategic plan;
• Guiding the faculty in curriculum development and the identification of new programs where appropriate;
• Advancing the Department’s network of external relationships in the region;
• Formulating and managing the Department’s budget;
• Creating semesterly schedules and assigning faculty loads;
• Participating in Course-level and Program-level assessment, which contributing to SACSCOC accreditation;
• Evaluating full-time and adjunct faculty annually and facilitating Department meetings;
• Maintaining NASM accreditation by overseeing standards and completing all requirements;
• Approving concert schedules, time sheets, contracts, and expenditures.
