Director of Diversity and Inclusion

The Gardner-Webb University Director of Diversity and Inclusion will provide strategic vision and effective leadership to strengthen intercultural education and experiences for traditional undergraduate students and the broader campus community. The Director shall report to the Vice President and Dean of Student Development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for University initiatives that will result in both strengthened campus unity and enhanced respect for diversity in its many forms;
  • Engage students, faculty, and staff to further behaviors, attitudes, and policies that support diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus;
  • Work with related University officials to monitor and remediate cases in which students, experience forms of discrimination or marginalization;
  • Lead the identification, planning, and implementation of educational programming and training to make the University more diverse, equitable, and inclusive community;
  • Work closely with the Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator for all campus diversity and inclusion compliance efforts for students, faculty, and staff, including Title IX, Title VII, Section 504, ADA, and others;
  • Continually keep up with efforts being done at peer institutions as it pertains to current cultural climate around diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice issues and implement adaptations as appropriate;
  • Identify, build, and sustain key community partnerships in the Boiling Springs and Shelby community;
  • Participate as a member of the Student Development Leadership Team;
  • Serve on University committees as deemed necessary;
  • Articulate, support, and uphold the University’s Christian mission and values;
  • Complete special projects and perform other duties assigned by the Vice President of Student Development & Dean of Students;

Education and/or Experience:

  • Master’s degree in related area, three to five years related experience and/or training in a college or university setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience of designing and delivering educational programs in a campus setting, including but not limited to, group facilitation and dialogue across differences.
