Part-Time Library Assistant

Gardner-Webb University invites applications for a Part-Time (20 hours per week) Library Assistant. This position works in all areas of the library, particularly staffing Circulation, and assists with projects in other departments within the library.  Serves as backup to Circulation, Reference, AV/Printing, and Interlibrary Loan. The schedule for this position includes hours every weekend and 1-2 nights per week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Staffs the circulation desk, handling checkout, check-in, reserves, overdues, etc.
  • Performs with strict adherence, the opening and closing procedures for the library.
  • Supervises student worker(s) when full-time staff are not available.
  • Helps maintain a neat and quiet facility.
  • Directs patrons to librarian for assistance as appropriate.
  • Assists patrons with technology (microform reader/printer, photocopier, printer, scanners, computers).
  • Conducts inventory throughout the library on a rotational basis.
  • Remains up-to-date on library policies and procedures and enforces those policies on all floors.
  • Assists with library projects and other duties, as assigned.
  • Shares responsibility with other staff for covering library hours.
  • Requires evening and weekend hours.

Required qualifications:

  • Experience working with students in a college or university setting
  • Demonstrated evidence of a team-oriented, professional mindset with the experience and ability to be a creative problem solver
  • Experience in Blackboard and Microsoft Office technologies
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous library experience preferred

  • Ability to multi-task and show attention to detail in a professional environment
  • Excellence in verbal and written skills
  • Demonstrate pleasant, helpful attitude
