Specializations

Medieval Europe, the crusades, Flanders, history of the book

Dr. Phillis's work analyzes the interplay between crusading, prestige, and political power in Western Europe during the High Middle Ages. Specifically, he studies the development of a crusading tradition that developed in the comital family of Flanders during the eleventh and twelfth centuries.

Dr. Phillis teaches both halves of Western Civ, Classroom Management, and Social Studies Methods at Gardner-Webb.
