Five-Day Summer Camp

Monday, June 20 – Friday 24, 2022

The Math Academy is a five-day event with emphasis on drone programming, 3-D printing, mathematical encryption, basic statistical studies, finance, and the stock market. The academy is centered around instructional time in the mornings with field trips and group projects in the afternoons. Field trips have included the Facebook plant in Rutherfordton, the BMW plant in Greenville, the Disney TI-5 Processing Center in Kings Mountain, and many others.

A Typical Day at the Academy:

  • 9 a.m – Welcome and Announcements
  • Statistical Terminology, Standard Deviation and Empirical Rule, Survey Design, and Design of Surveys.
  • 3-D Printing, Investing in the Stock Market, Admissions Presentation.
  • Drone Session or 3-D Printing Project
  • Drone Session or 3-D Printing Project, Business Session
  • Binomial Distributions (Mean, Variance, Standard Deviation, Expected Value with Insurance Industry), Presentation and Projects.
  • Lunch
  • Collection of Statistical Data from Surveys, Formation of Statistics Projects, Presentation of Projects.
  • 3-D Printing Project, Introduction to Stock Market Computer Simulation Game
  • Project and Presentation
  • 3:15 p.m. – Closing

Cost

The academy is sponsored through a generous grant from the Stonecutter Foundation of Rutherford County, Math Academy is only $25.

Student Applications

  • Completed mathematical studies through the Algebra II level.
  • Students who are entering 10-12 grade.
