An informative 2-hour workshop on how to structure pastor compensation packages to provide the most benefit to pastors at the lowest cost to the church. – Special emphasis on the Minister’s Housing Allowance.

Workshop Details

We will cover need-to-know information regarding the current rules governing ministerial compensation packages. Key information will include:

• Setting up compensation packages – Do’s and Don’ts
• Benefits such as health, insurance, retirement savings (What is pre-tax and what is taxable)
• Self-employment tax payment options
• Advantage of the IRS Housing Allowance
• Who is eligible for the IRS Housing Allowance
• Types of housing expense records clergy should maintain
• The congregation’s responsibility for setting the amount and maintaining records
• Types of expenses that can be included in the housing allowance
• How the housing allowance affects Self-Employment tax
• Accountable reimbursement plans to pay for expenses

The workshop will be led by Ms. Janice Hagar, a church administration consultant. She assists churches with administrative issues such as church incorporation; development and revision of church bylaws, policies, and procedures; financial policies and internal controls; and church and clergy tax and compensation. She also conducts financial reviews for churches and ministries.

The workshop is offered by Gardner-Webb University’s Pittman Center for Congregational Enrichment in partnership with the Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association and the Center for Healthy Churches.
