Peer Tutoring FAQs

What if I cannot find an available time open for a course listed?

The Peer Tutoring and Testing program does not offer tutoring on demand; if you are unable to find an open appointment for any of the courses listed within five days, please contact the Director of Tutoring at (704) 406-2254 or email to [email protected].

How long is a tutoring session?

45-50 minutes, after which your peer tutor will ask you to complete a brief survey about your tutoring session.

What should I expect?

You can expect your tutor to be patient, assisting you with a range of topics such as study skills or a clearer understanding of your course content.

Will my tutor do my work for me?

No, your tutor is there to coach you, helping you generate ideas or understand concepts. Tutors will not assist with take-home exams or projects which would put them in violation of Gardner-Webb University’s Honor Code.

How do I know my tutor is qualified?

Tutors were recommended by faculty teaching the courses you are taking. They’ve made top grades in these courses and exhibit exceptional skills working with peers.

How do I make a peer tutoring appointment?

  1. Log into WebbConnect
  2. Click on Academic Support
  3. Click “Peer Tutoring Appointment Scheduler”
  4. Choose a class from the drop-down menu
  5. Select a date for your tutoring session
  6. Select an available time and click “submit”

Where do we meet?

Tucker Student Center, Room 336

Can I go more than once?

You can make multiple appointments with peer tutors. We encourage you to return on a regular basis for maximum benefit. That said, some students only prefer assistance prior to tests. If that is the case, we’d encourage you to make your appointment ahead of time in case other students are planning on scheduling the same week.

Can I have a standing weekly appointment with a tutor?

No, you will need to make appointments each time you wish to meet with a peer tutor.

When is peer tutoring available?

Please see My Webb for specific course tutoring schedules. During summer semesters, the program offers online tutoring through Smarthinking. Peer tutoring is not available during campus breaks (Spring Break, Easter, Fall Break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).

Will my professor/coach know I went to see a peer tutor?

Only if you ask your tutor to email a professor/coach to notify them.
