Welcome Week: Aug. 16-20

GWU Move-In and Orientation Activities Begin Aug. 16

Welcome Week

Gardner-Webb University will welcome hundreds of new students—freshmen and transfers—to its campus Aug. 16-20 for a variety of orientation activities.

Move-in day is Friday, Aug. 16. Scheduled welcome events on that day include a greeting from the University’s new President Dr. William M. Downs, complimentary refreshments for students and families in the Tucker Student Center, and a time of fellowship and worship at the Bell Tower.

“New student orientation is set up to help students and their families transition to a new life here at Gardner-Webb,” noted Brian Arnold, director of Student Activities, Campus Recreation, and New Student Orientation. “The program helps students to connect with other students, returning students, with Gardner-Webb, and their professors. Orientation has an academic focus, but there’s also a social component for students to connect with each other. As they develop those connections, it helps them to have a good experience while they are here at Gardner-Webb.”

To help students get to know each other, they will experience an array of orientation offerings in their first days on campus. Activities include music, games, contests, and information sessions on various campus organizations and services.

Beginning Saturday, Aug. 17, students will complete team-building challenges on Gardner-Webb’s Broyhill Adventure Course. A worship service is planned for Sunday, Aug. 18, at 10:30 a.m. in the Tucker Student Center. If students’ families are still in town, they are welcome to attend. On Tuesday, Aug. 20, the Connect Fair will link students with a host of campus clubs and organizations, local churches and businesses, and free item giveaways. The fair is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Returning residential students will check in Monday, Aug. 19. Undergraduate classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 21.
