Tucker Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength Scholarship

Fifteen Students Invited to Participate in Inaugural Tucker Scholarship Event

Tucker Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength Scholarship

The Tucker Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength Scholarship is Gardner-Webb University’s most prestigious award. This undergraduate residential scholarship is given to a deserving student who exemplifies the attributes highlighted in Mark 12:30—"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

Established by Robert and Carolyn Tucker in 2019, the award includes a comprehensive scholarship for eight semesters, and a $3,000 participation award is given to those students who participate in the interview process. Scholarship applicants are nominated by a minister, teacher or member of the community. A member of the Tucker family will be part of the committee that will select the winner.

On Dec. 6, the inaugural Tucker Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength Scholarship event will be held at Gardner-Webb. Fifteen prospective students have been invited to campus to interview with the scholarship committee, who will choose one student for the full-ride scholarship. The day will focus on individual interviews by the full committee. The visiting students will also get to know the GWU community with a meal, tours, discussions, and a service project.

“These young people are extremely impressive,” noted Jonathan Hooks, director of enrollment marketing and communications. “We have one student coming all the way from Alaska. All are very active in service in their communities. Each one of these student’s stories is very strong and you could see so much of what we value in our community already in these young men and women. Each one would add to GWU in his or her own way, making this place even better.”
