Family Weekend

Families Invited to Experience Educational, Cultural and Social Opportunities at GWU

Family Weekend

Each year, Gardner-Webb University Office of Student Activities hosts a Family Weekend. The event gives families a chance to experience the many educational, cultural, and social opportunities available on the GWU campus.

The weekend begins on Friday, Sept. 13, with desserts and a game of BINGO with prizes, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 15, when a worship celebration will be held in Dover Chapel.

In addition, families are invited to participate in a service project to benefit foster children. In partnership with Miss GWU 2019, Sarah Bragdon, the Office of Student Activities is sponsoring a drive for “Bags of Hope,” a project of Least of These Carolinas, a non-profit group that provides clothing and other items to foster care children.

The following items are requested:
• Men’s and women’s shampoo, deodorant and body wash.
• Men’s and women’s underwear for teenagers.
• Boy’s and girl’s jeans sizes 6-12.

Activities on Saturday include the Rescue Race 5K, which is sponsored by Release the Captives, a student club formed to raise awareness of human trafficking. The run raises money for Challenging Heights, a non-profit organization based in Ghana, Africa, that works to rescue and rehabilitate enslaved children. In the afternoon, a family tailgate event is planned before the Runnin’ Bulldogs take on North Carolina Central. Tickets for the tailgate party are $10 for adults and free for GWU students with a meal plan and children under 12. Tickets for the football game are $15 for adults, free for current GWU students with an ID and $8 for students in kindergarten through college.

Registration is required for BINGO and the family tailgate. Tickets for the ballgame may be purchased at the stadium.
