GWU Teams Begin with Slate of Non-Conference Matchups

Gardner-Webb’s baseball, softball, tennis and lacrosse teams will begin their 2020 seasons soon with non-conference matchups.

The Runnin' Bulldogs kick off the 2020 season with a seven-game home stand, hosting Appalachian State on Opening Day – February 14 – in game one of a three-game series. Also visiting Boiling Springs are Georgia State (February 18) and Delaware (February 21-23). The baseball program will host its inaugural First Pitch Celebration on February 1, featuring a Q&A session with Atlanta Braves pitcher Jeremy Walker.

Head coach Tom Cole and the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs will play 56 contests with 32 set to take place in Gardner-Webb's Brinkley Stadium. The Runnin' Bulldogs kick off the 2020 campaign by hosting the Gardner-Webb University/AmericInn Lodge and Suites Tournament. The three-day event begins on Friday, February 7, and features four teams and 10 games.

Men’s Tennis
Head men's tennis coach Mike Griffith has compiled a challenging 2020 schedule for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Griffith will take Gardner-Webb on the road for the first five matches of the season, kicking off on Saturday, January 25, at Furman in Greenville, S.C.

Women’s Tennis
Head women's tennis coach Jim Corn and the Runnin' Bulldogs' 2020 spring schedule features 18 matches, including 11 on Gardner-Webb's home courts. The 'Dogs will play a challenging schedule with 12 matches against teams that finished .500 or better in 2019. They will open the 2020 campaign with a three-match homestand beginning on January 17 when they host College of Charleston.

Gardner-Webb head women's lacrosse coach Jessie Aguglia led the program to a single-season record for wins in 2019. The team’s first game this season is against Duke (Feb. 7). Then the group heads back home for two non-conference contests against Howard (Feb. 9) and Mercer (Feb. 14).
