Paris in the Spring

GWU Students Travel Abroad During Spring Break

Nine students traveled to Paris, France over spring break as part of a study-abroad opportunity sponsored by the Office of International Programs. Dr. Tom Jones, professor of Biology, who travels to Paris with students approximately every two years, organized the trip.

Freshmen Ressie Owen and Grace Love chose to attend the trip because of the way that Jones promoted it to them throughout the year. Owen was also influenced by her love for the French language, and the chance to experience in person what she has learned in French class.

“I learned a lot about Parisian culture and international travel through this trip,” she said. “This was the first time I travelled outside the U.S., so learning how to go through customs from Dr. Jones was really helpful.”

According to Love, the most beneficial thing she learned was how much she absorbed from another country and its people. “The local people were wonderful and sweet,” she said. “They were willing to help me learn the language and culture.”

According to Love, visiting another country caused her to reflect on her own upbringing and culture.

The group’s destinations included the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.
