GWU men's basketball defeats Radford

The wait is over for the Runnin’ Bulldogs and their fans. Gardner-Webb will travel to Columbia, SC to take on Virginia in its first NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level. The game will take place on March 22 at 3:10 p.m. and will air on Tru-TV.

Students and well-wishers from the community gathered in Tucker Student Center on Sunday for a party to watch the NCAA Selection Show. The 2019 Big South Conference Men's Basketball Championship Trophy was on display, and fans got a chance to request autographs and interact with the players.

Gardner-Webb (23-11) secured a coveted place in the mayhem of March Madness after defeating Radford University in the Big South Tournament Championship game in Radford, Va., March 10.

The NCAA championship is a 68-team single-elimination tournament held at sites throughout the country over a 19-day period, with the Final Four taking place in Minneapolis, Minn. on April 6-8.

Tim Craft is in his sixth season as the head coach for the ‘Dawgs. Craft's run in Boiling Springs includes five winning seasons, with four consecutive along the way, which became the longest stretch since the program’s move to Division-I. The Runnin’ Bulldogs also secured four straight trips to the Big South Conference tournament semifinals. During that stretch, Gardner-Webb has also notched wins over Power Five programs including Clemson, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Nebraska.

The Runnin' Bulldogs have previously made national tournament appearances at the NJCAA, NAIA and NCAA Division II levels – part of a rich basketball tradition at the school.
