July 2019

Greetings GWU Parents and Families!

I hope you are enjoying creating memories this summer! The semester will begin soon. Rest and relaxation can be beneficial to jump start a new and exciting semester!

My name is Jackie Leach and I am the Director of Diversity and Intercultural initiatives. I love this position as it allows me to educate and celebrate the many unique qualities that make up the student body! Gardner-Webb has over 20 countries represented. Beyond that, we have an amazing group of students with many different backgrounds.

At Gardner-Webb, we want our students to grow in knowledge, in spirit, and as individuals. Diversity helps to promote growth of our students in all of these areas. We learn from those whose experiences differ from our own, which shows that diversity enriches the learning experience. We are pushed to grow personally and spiritually when we challenge our preconceived notions of individuals based on stereotypes. We learn communication skills and develop critical thinking when we are around individuals from varying backgrounds. Being among diverse populations strengthens the preparedness of our students as they enter the real world.

At Gardner-Webb we want our students to flourish in order to spread our mission: “Pro Deo et Humanitate – For God and Humanity”.

Many blessings to you all,

Jackie Leach
Director of Diversity and Intercultural Initiatives
