Special Weekend Introduces Families to the Gardner-Webb Experience

Activities Include Tailgate Before Runnin’ Bulldogs First Home Game

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Families are invited to experience their student’s home at Gardner-Webb University for Family Weekend on Sept. 8-10. Activities begin on Friday at 8 p.m. with Sweet Bingo, include the first home football game on Saturday—GWU vs. Elon—and end with a worship service on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m.   

The Student Engagement staff is excited to connect with families and welcome them back to campus. “We have a full weekend of engaging activities for students and their families,” noted Brian Arnold, assistant dean of Students and director of Student Engagement and New Student Orientation.  

Family Weekend Schedule

All events are open to families and their students.  

Friday, Sept. 8
  • 8 p.m.—Sweet Bingo, Tucker Student Center Halls, enjoy desserts and a game of BINGO. Registration is required.
  • 9 p.m.—Open Mic & Karaoke, first floor, Tucker Student Center, no registration required.
Saturday, Sept. 9
  • 3 to 6 p.m.—Family Weekend Tailgate, Soccer Practice Field (across the street from the visitor’s side of the football stadium), menu includes hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, potato salad, homemade chips and dessert. Registration is required.
  • Dawg Walk, 3:30 p.m., head over to Tucker Student Center for the Dawg Walk. The route begins at Tucker’s patio, lake level. Cheer on Gardner-Webb Football with GWU Cheer and the Marching Bulldogs as the football team makes its way to the locker room before the first home game of the season. Wear your Bulldog attire, bring signs and make some noise. The first 100 attendees will get a GWU growl towel.  
  • The Voice Season 10 Contestant, Angie K., will be playing a concert during the tailgate, which is free and open to all.
  • 6 p.m.—The Runnin’ Bulldogs take on Elon, Spangler Stadium, tickets available, here.
 Sunday, Sept. 10
  • 10 a.m.—Worship at the Webb, Dover Chapel.
