Title IX states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefit, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
Title IX is an anti-discrimination law based on gender. Sexual harassment and sexual assault are considered discrimination and fall under Title IX protection on a university campus. The Title IX office at Gardner-Webb University is here to identify Title IX related issues, to oversee complaints, conduct investigations and to ensure consistency in following policies and procedures. The Title IX office is responsible for the annual training on Title IX and Campus Security Authority as required under the Violence against Women Act of 2013, Section 304. The Title IX office is also responsible for the distribution of other educational materials relating to the topic which may be picked up at the office.
