The Division of Student Development empowers and supports students to maximize their learning experiences. We do this by:

  • Enriching the student experience by creating a collaborative community that fosters a balanced and purposeful life.
  • Cultivating programs and physical spaces promote a sense of belonging, opportunities for socialization, and community development. 
  • Preparing and engaging students and staff to lead, learn, and live in a global society.
  • Championing diversity, community and the celebration of tradition that promotes an inclusive environment.
  • Challenge and empower students and staff to be responsible citizens who contribute to their communities and profession through leadership and service.

Center for Personal & Professional Development

  1. The CPPD continues to provide programming integrated into curriculum that guides students toward a meaningful college experience and purposeful career such as customized classroom sessions and workshops, experiential learning days, employer and alumni events, and individualized appointments.
  2. The CPPD empowers students to contribute leadership to their communities and professions through oversight and support of a variety of programs and initiatives including Summer Leadership Experience, the Leadership Academy, SGA, Leadership Reading Group, workshop, etc. 

Counseling Services

  1. In effort to reduce the stigma behind mental health and encourage students to utilize counseling services, the University Counseling Center will host on-campus events to promote awareness and provide the opportunity for socialization within the community. 
  2. The University Counseling Center will utilize graduate interns, to include current GWU graduate Mental Health Counseling students, to assist professional staff and impower professional development through leadership and service to our community. 
  3. The University Counseling Center will utilize satellite offices in the College of Health Sciences and the Suttle Wellness Center to cultivate safe spaces/environments in these areas to foster a sense of belonging.

Housing and Residence Education

  1. To provide a safe and inclusive environment that fosters a supportive community where every resident can flourish personally and professionally, empowering individuals to thrive and achieve their fullest potential.
  2. Implementing meaningful engagements, offering tailored accommodations that support each student’s unique needs and contribute to their overall well-being and academic success.
  3. Guiding students in becoming successful, responsible, and engaged citizens by creating a supportive and dynamic housing environment. 

Student Engagement

  1. Creating a safe, fun, challenging and empowering environment to cultivate a wholistic healthy lifestyle.
  2. We support a diverse student culture by embracing campus traditions, establishing inclusive and social experiences while fostering intentional relationships and a sense of belonging. 

University Police

  1. Provide the safest and most secure environment for all students, staff, faculty and visitors.
  2. Build positive relationships with community stakeholders and develop prevention strategies that proactively address public safety issues.
  3. Promote a culture of accountability and an environment of open communication that fosters trust throughout the campus community. Cultivate atmosphere where students feel safe and see University Police as individuals and not just as police officers.
