news-category: Performing Arts Gardner-Webb Theatre Presents Evening of One-Act Comedies By Office of University Communications On September 27, 2020 Performances will be held Outside of Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Although COVID-19 health guidelines changed the dynamics of rehearsals, the Gardner-Webb University Department of Theatre Arts accepted the unique challenges. A cast of 11 students will present “All in the Timing” at 8 p.m. on Oct. 7-11. Directed by Dr. Chris Nelson, assistant professor of theatre arts, the production will be performed on two stages set up outside of Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center, 116 Lutz-Yelton Drive. Folding chairs will be available or audience members may bring their own. “We have been masking and distancing for this show, and that has been quite an adjustment,” Nelson offered. “We have had cast and crew members in quarantine, so that has caused us to lose two weeks’ worth of rehearsal time and change one of the shows. Because it’s an evening of short plays, each one has a small cast, so there’s no need to bunch up. It allows us to do theatre even under the circumstances, and that’s good for our students. They need to be practicing their various crafts.” “All in the Timing” features six one-act comedies written by David Ives. He is known for his verbal dexterity, theatrical invention, and humor. This work won the Outer Critics Circle Playwriting Award, ran for two years Off-Broadway, and in the 1995-96 season, was the most-performed play in the country after Shakespeare productions. “I have always liked David Ives and his quirky humor,” Nelson observed. “We hope folks will come out and support our students. They have worked very hard under adverse conditions to put this show on, and I’m proud of their flexibility.” Tickets are free for Gardner-Webb students, faculty, staff and children under 12, $10 for adults, and $5 for other students and seniors. For ticketing information, contact the Box Office at 704-406-4656 or [email protected]. Auxiliary aids will be made available to persons with disabilities upon request 10 working days prior to the event. Please call 704-406-4270 or email [email protected] with your request. Purchase tickets. All in the Timing will be presented on an outdoor stage. Located in the North Carolina foothills, Gardner-Webb University is a private, Christian, liberal arts university.
