Alyssa Burnette

Adjunct-English and Literature

Alyssa Burnette is an adjunct in the Department of English Language and Literature. She is a Wolfson-award-winning GWU alumna who earned her Master of Arts (Honors) in Victorian Literature & Gender Studies in 2019 from the University of Southampton in England. While working her way through graduate school, Alyssa curated her writing portfolio, resulting in publications through organizations such as BetterHelp, Student Minds, and Mind Diagnostics. Alyssa has also worked as a language training specialist for AI writing tools, as a creative consultant, and a Human Resources specialist. She received Associate Degrees in criminal justice and Art History in 2016 from Cleveland Community College in Shelby, N.C., and her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English literature in 2018 from Gardner-Webb University. Her interests include horror cinema, representations of Victorian-era female serial killers in film, and the intersection of disability and mental illness as portrayed through horror cinema. Alyssa reads 200 books every year and enjoys challenging herself to explore new texts that push the boundaries of the horror/thriller genres. When she isn’t reading, writing, or teaching, she is enjoying the company of her six Persian cats.
