news-category: Admissions Gardner-Webb Welcomes 220 Students to Compete for Full-Tuition Ignite Excellence Scholarships By Office of University Communications On February 1, 2022 Number of Participants Increases by 20 Percent Over Last Year BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—An academically elite group of students will visit the Gardner-Webb University campus over four days to compete in the Ignite Excellence Scholarship program. About 120 students attended interviews on Jan. 27 and 28, and 100 more will participate in interviews on Feb. 3 and 4. “This is a 20 percent increase compared to accepted students who attended last year’s scholarship days,” observed Julie C. Fleming, assistant vice president for Undergraduate Admissions. “They represent 13 states, and two students are from Germany.” In addition to being interviewed, the students attend a department fair to learn about GWU’s comprehensive academic program with more than 80 majors and minors. They also take part in a student essentials session. Fleming further noted that the students’ average high school GPA is 4.42. They compete for one of eight full-tuition scholarships. These scholarships cover the cost of tuition for fall and spring semesters and are valued at $31,220. Gardner-Webb offers a variety of financial aid packages.
