Board of Trustees Initiates Measure for Fall 2022

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—For the fourth year in a row, Gardner-Webb University has announced a freeze on tuition for traditional undergraduate students enrolled in the Boiling Springs campus program. The freeze will apply to incoming freshmen, transfer students and current undergraduates for fall 2022.

With inflation rising and price increases in all areas, such as food, energy and housing, college affordability is even more important for families. As most other universities across the nation are considering raising tuition rates, Gardner-Webb is pledging to offer its quality education while limiting the cost and subsequent student debt.

“There really are precious few things in our world that haven’t increased in cost over the past four years,” reflected Gardner-Webb President William Downs. “I’m proud that we can extend our tuition freeze into the 2022-23 academic year, and just as we have in the past, we will accomplish this without compromising the world-class instruction everyone has come to expect from a Gardner-Webb education.”

Gardner-Webb Board of Trustees Chair Gary H. Smith III says the board felt strongly about this leadership decision. “The Board of Trustees at Gardner-Webb University is committed to providing an excellent liberal arts education in a Christian community,” he affirmed. “We are especially pleased to be able to provide an affordable education to our students.”

Moreover, the decision made Gardner-Webb more affordable among the 36 independent colleges and universities in North Carolina. When comparing the tuition rates of these colleges, GWU is 21st on the list.

With its average 13-to-1 student-faculty ratio, Gardner-Webb offers students an exceptional education in an environment that promotes student engagement and outcomes. Gardner-Webb continually receives high rankings from Colleges of Distinction, an independent research organization. These honors emphasize GWU’s competencies in teaching critical thinking, writing, oral skills, research, and global perspectives, as well as offering dynamic out-of-classroom learning. Additionally, Gardner-Webb was recognized by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni with an “A” grade for its core academic requirements that prepare students for leadership and service.

Gardner-Webb University is North Carolina’s recognized leader in private, Christian higher education. A Carnegie-Classified Doctoral/Professional University, GWU is home to six professional schools, 14 academic departments, more than 80 undergraduate and graduate majors, and a world-class faculty. Located on a beautiful 225-acre campus in Boiling Springs, N.C., Gardner-Webb prepares graduates to impact their chosen professions, equips them with the skills to advance the frontiers of knowledge, and inspires them to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of others.
