School of Divinity Associate Dean Jim McConnell, professor of New Testament Interpretation, will lead the study of “The Letter to the Ephesians: Being the Church.” The event is free, and lunch is included if participants RSVP by Nov. 4 to Lisa Hollifield. McConnell will give an overview of the book of Ephesians in the New Testament. “I will be providing the historical background of the letter followed by a section-by-section explanation of the text,” he said. He shared that his favorite verses from Ephesians are found in Chapter 3, verses 14-21. “The author desires for the readers of the letter to understand what is not possible to comprehend in a human way, namely the love of Christ for all people,” McConnell explained. McConnell, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., joined the Gardner-Webb School of Divinity faculty in 2009. He teaches classes in all areas of New Testament as well as biblical Greek. The author of “The topos of Divine Testimony in Luke-Acts (Pickwick, 2014),” as well as other articles and essays, McConnell focuses especially on Luke-Acts and Paul. He also serves as the associate editor of the journal, “Review & Expositor.” Auxiliary aids will be made available to persons with disabilities upon request 10 working days prior to the event.
