news-category: ROTC Gardner-Webb ROTC Cadet Chosen for Honor During Program at Big South Championship By Office of University Communications On March 1, 2023 Freshman Zach Morrow Will Receive ROTC Scholarship on Stage at Big South Education Day Cadet Zach Morrow BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—A cadet from the Gardner-Webb University Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) will be recognized during the Hercules Tire Big South Championships on March 2 at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. Cadet Zach Morrow, a freshman, will be honored as part of the second annual US Army ROTC Big South High School Education Day. High school students are invited to attend this event, which includes admission to the women’s quarterfinals and an opportunity to learn more about the ROTC and Big South colleges and universities. Gardner-Webb ROTC Senior Military Science Instructor Richard Taylor explained that Morrow was selected for the honor because of his diligence in maintaining the academic and physical standards of the ROTC program. “He has shown drive and determination as a young leader, which has been recognized in the fashion of a scholarship,” Taylor praised. “Cadet Morrow is one of the only freshmen in the program who has completed all the requirements and held the standards in place to be awarded a scholarship.” Recruiting Operations Officer Richard A. Nash of the UNC-Charlotte Army ROTC Department invited Morrow to participate in the recognition, noting that he will receive his scholarship on stage in front of hundreds of high school students from the greater Charlotte area. “We will highlight your achievements to show the high school students in the audience that this opportunity is also available to them,” Nash stated. Morrow, a homeland security major, decided at a young age that he wanted to join the Army. “I felt as if the ROTC program was the best choice and the gateway to my career,” he affirmed. “It’s an honor for me to be recognized. There are many MS1s that deserve this privilege, and I feel lucky to be chosen.” Learn more about Gardner-Webb’s ROTC program here. Big South Championship tickets available here.
