Dr. Jonathan M. Ahearn, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Exercise Science, praised Sigmon as a personal trainer and wellness coordinator who promotes, embraces, and encourages lifelong learning. “Chip is a legend and legacy to the strength and conditioning profession,” Ahearn added. “He has served in the profession at all levels from high school to professional. Chip served as the first strength coach at Appalachian State University and has spent a large majority of his career as a strength coach at the collegiate level, the NBA, and in the private sector.”

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Sigmon’s clients include top-level professional, college, and high school athletes, along with top business men and women. However, Ahearn described Sigmon as “one of the humblest individuals I have ever met, and he loves to pour his extensive knowledge and wisdom into young professionals.”

With his over 40 years of fitness experience, Sigmon is well recognized for developing and implementing innovative fitness and athletic performance programs. He emphasizes strength training methods and modalities for all ages. He works with each client on an individual basis, focusing on achieving long term results through challenging and consistently varied workouts.

“He is able to uniquely speak about where the profession has come from and about where it is going,” Ahearn observed. “Chip is often invited to speak at national conferences, so we are tremendously blessed to have him visit and speak on our campus.”

Auxiliary aids will be made available to persons with disabilities upon request 10 working days prior to the event.  Please call 704-406-4270 or email [email protected] with your request.
