Home / People / Wilson Hawkins Wilson Hawkins Assistant Professor of Physics Dr. Hawkins recently received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Physics from East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville. He earned his BS and MS in Physics from ECU. Hawkins hails from a small rural town, Grays Chapel, N.C., near Asheboro. He was home-schooled by his mom until the age of 14 and worked on his dad’s farm. Hawkins was very involved in the ECU atomic physics group and designed experiments in the accelerator lab as an undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate student. He enjoys weightlifting, basketball, chess, guitar, and anything that gets him close to the water. He loves to cook, making sourdough from a culture starter and smokes barbecue. Hawkins’ late grandfather, the Rev. Norman Livengood attended Gardner-Webb College before serving as a Southern Baptist minister in the Asheboro/Greensboro area for over 50 years.
